Uththuwattai Archaeological Ruins in Kudumbimalai (කුඩුම්බිමලෛ ඌත්තුවට්ටෛ නටබුන්)

Located in Uththuwattai village, this Anuradhapura-period settlement site features six stone pillars, two of which have fallen and one that leans. Accompanied by ancient bricks and earthenware pottery fragments, the architectural remains reflect construction styles characteristic of the Anuradhapura era.

The building site with stone pillars is located at Uththuwattai village, within the Kudumbimalai (209-D) Grama Niladhari Division of the Koralai Pattu South (Kiran) Divisional Secretariat Division.

Access Route

To reach the site from Kiran Junction, travel through Pulipanchakal along Kulawadi Road, passing the 5th Post Junction and continuing past Tharavikulam. At Alioluwa Junction, turn left onto Sinnamiyankulam Road and cross Miyankulam Oya to reach Uththuwattai village.

Historical Background

The architectural characteristics of the surviving building remains are comparable to the construction style associated with the Anuradhapura period. The evidence therefore indicates that the site dates to this period.

Site Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence

The site contains evidence of an ancient settlement that appears to have been contemporary with the Anuradhapura period. Six stone pillars can currently be identified at the location. Of these, two have fallen, while another remains standing but is leaning at an angle. Ancient bricks and fragments of earthenware pottery are also visible at the site, providing additional archaeological evidence of the former settlement.
