
Hapuwalana Kshethrarama Tampita Viharaya is an ancient temple hidden away just 43 km from Colombo in Divulapitiya belonging to the Gampaha District. This Tampita Viharaya has been built in the 1800’s lies facing a paddy field.
One of the unique features a visitor could observe today at this temple is the ancient Tampita Vihara Ge. Tampita Vihara were a popular architectural feature of temples during the Kandyan era.
This Tampita Vihara Ge is built on a wooden platform laid on 16 granite pillars. No balustrade is build around this image house which is popular feature in most other Tampita Viharayas. Statues and the frescoes inside the image house belong to the Kandyan era.
A unique mandapa is built in front of the Tampita Viharaya. Generally these mandapa ara square halls but here it has been built as a hexagonal structure.
The temple can be reached through Minuwangoda from either the Airport Highway or through Negombo Road.
