On a forested hillock in the remote village of Kahatagasyaya lies the ancient Buddhist site of Madana Perani Vehera. The ruins including an ancient stupa at this site was declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;
“Hillock of ancient Dagoba, place with ruins of buildings and stone pillars and other archaeolgical evidences in the surrounding area at the place called Madana Perani Wehera (Latitude 07º 18′ 35” N and longitude 081º 33′ 36”E) in the forest of Kahatagasyaya village situated in Grama Niladhari Division No. W/100/A/180, Kahatagasyaya in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Uhana in Ampara District in Eastern Province..”
GPS location is marked based on the above description. But it is recommended to get directions to the Madana Perani Vehera from a villager in Kahatagasyaya.
