Nilwakka Sri Bodhirukkaramaya which is also known as Nilwakka Tampita Viharaya is an ancient temple in the Rambukkana Divisional Secretariat. To reach the temple you need to take the Nilwakka Road from Rambukkana town (towards the Rambukkana Police Station) and travel 2.5 km along this route to reach the temple.
One of the unique features a visitor could observe today at this temple is the tiny Tampita Vihara Ge in the temple. Tampita Vihara were a popular architectural feature of temples during the Kandyan era. The temple is built on top of granite stumps with wooden platform laid across the stumps.
The Tampita Viharaya is built on a wooden platform built on 6 granite stumps. A wooden balustrade is build around the image house on the platform. Statues inside the image house belong to the Kandyan era. The department of archaeology has made a good attempt in restoring this Vihara Ge and currently is in good condition.
In addition you can also find an ancient granite Bodhigaraya in excellent condition at this temple.
