The walawwa (mansion) of Ehelapola Maha Adikaram used as the official residence when he was sent to Ratnapura to collect taxes has been now converted in to a museum and is now known as the Ratnapura National Museum.
The rather unknown Hathbamba Ella waterfall lies hidden by the trees unseen from the main road. Although unknown to the general public, this is a popular bathing place for the surrounding villagers.
The 4 meter high Rathu Palama Ella is a small but a beautiful waterfall created by the Hangamu Oya in the remote village of Combagama. The waterfall is so called due its close proximity to a old and dilapidated steel bridge with wooden planks laid across Hangamu Oya on a disused road.
The Demala Ella lies below Alupola Ella but there is no access road to the waterfall. You will have to walk through the jungle or you can see this waterfall on on the circular road passing Alupola Ella.
The waterfall on the Bothumba Oya close the popular Bolthumbe Saman Devalaya is known as “Aliya Wetuna Ella” or simply “Bolthumbe Ella”. The name “Aliya Wetuna Ella” means the ‘waterfall from which a Elephant fell’ which probably refers to a past incident at the falls.
The source of this breath-taking, 116m-high Kirindi Ella fall is the Kirindi Ela (stream), which flows from its starting point 940m up the Kuttapitiya Mountain. The stream travels 13km before the cascading point in the Kaluwaramukalana Jungle.
A foundation of the pre historic house dated to 1125 BC found on the premises of Sri Jayabodharama Viharaya in Uda Ranchamadama believed to be the users of the closely Ranchamadama burial site.
Discovered at a local school, the Ranchamadama site reveals a sophisticated 1359 BCE prehistoric community. Excavations uncovered unique oblong clay burial canoes which once housed numerous funerary urns. Located near the Rakwana mountains, this archaeological treasure provides vital insight into ancient Sri Lankan burial customs and early proto-historic settlement patterns.
Pothgul Rajamaha Viharaya is a historic hilltop cave temple founded by King Walagamba. Known as a “library” for sacred texts, it features a massive reclining Buddha and a unique “Tampita Viharaya” on stone pillars. After climbing 454 steps, visitors are rewarded with ancient frescoes, medicinal wells, and breathtaking views.
The Uggal Kalthota Amuna has been built during the regime of King Gaja Bahu (112-134 A.C.). In 1892, the right bank channel was restored and an independent weir of 71 m long and 1 m high was constructed upstream in 1956 to provide water for new left bank irrigation.
According to legend the history of the Bolthumbe Saman Devalaya goes as far as Ravana Era. Even today, a prominent place is given to King Ravana in all its activities.
Believed to be connected to the King Vatta Gamini Abaya (aka King Walagamba)(103 BC to 89 BC) this temple has been seen the patronage of king Mayadunne (1521-1581), Seetawaka Rajasinhe (1581 – 1591?) and many kings of the Kandyan Kingdom.
The Galamuna Ella fall is 8m high. The name ‘Galamuna’, meaning stone face, is believed to have derived from an old stone culvert located here, said to be an irrigation project set up by ancient King Walagamba.
This 25m fall is borne of a stream flowing from Umagahawela, which winds through woods past the Budu Lena monastery in Lihiniyandola and along the eastern slope of the Dolabada Mountain before joining the Kosgaga River.

This 40m Watawala fall is formed of three separate streams, of which the middle is the most scenic. Each stream begins at the Rambukkannde Mountain of the Uda Karavita Forest Reserve, and winds through the jungle to converge and cascade from a small rock.
The 7 meter high Haldola Falls lies between Thiriwanaketiya and Karawita (B421) close the Dela town. Unfortunately the water of the stream has been diverted from above and the waterfall and it totally dries up other than during heavy rains.
Ganegama Aramunapola Rajamaha Viharaya which is also commonly referred to as Ganegama Rankoth Viharaya lies 2.5 kilometres before Pelmadulla Town in center of a paddy field. The history of the temple goes as far back as King Devanampiyatissa (250-210 BC) of the Anuradhapura Kingdom.
Asia’s first rehabilitation center for elephants. Established in 1995 by the Wild life Conservation Department the center lies on a 200 acre land on the western boarder of the Udawalawe National Park. with the Udawalawe Reservoir as the south boarder.
