Sri Rama Viharaya is a rather unknown historic temple within the Kandy city limits on a hillock above the Trinity Collage tucked away in Udawattakele and is accessed by a foot path in Udawattakele. Another road leading to the temple is found from Sri Dalada Thapovanaya in Udawattakele Mawatha which passes through the road in front of the Kandy Municipal Council linked to a motorable gravel road.
The Pabbatahata Ela now identified as the Minipe Canal is the product of the the great reservoir builder, king Mahasen (276-303 CE). However the Minipe Amuna a (Manimekhala Amuna) has been built later by king Aggabodhi I (575-608 CE)
Traveling 2½ km from Welimada town in Badulla district on the Moragolla road, you can find this Ambalama by the Moragolla road inside the Downside Estate controlled by Malwatte Valley Plantations.
This Ambalama is made of kabook stones and mortar. The design here is different from other Ambalams. The walls here are made to meet at four corners. Due to the size of Ambalama, three pillars have been added in the middle of the walls on two sides and rear to bear the weight of the roof. There are seats for travellers on the front and back walls.
The roof of Palle Digala Ambalama is supported by four pillars made of large cylindrical bricks and mortar. The height of the original footing is not visible due to the elevation of the road here. Thick walls and short walls are used as seat rafts.
Aththaragama Ambalama is made of wood and stone and has several carved wooden pillars. Among the carvings, floral motifs, an image of a elephant carrying a relic casket and some bo leaves can be seen. Timber pillars are decorated with simple pillar heads (Pekada).
Sudugala Ella Falls is also known as Heightenford Falls and Galpoththa Ella Falls. The width of the waterfall exceeds 60 meters and the water slides over over a slanting rock bed.
Archeology Department board of the Fort at Menikkadawara, stood on the side of the road, but hardly was there any other indication of an ancient site.A few shops and a sub post office made a very tiny bazaar.
In 1908 a plaque had been placed at the place where Knox lived in Lagundeniya although the house no longer exists the plaque carved in block of stone is now a protected archaeological monument.
Pallegama is located in the Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat. Pallegama Ambalama is located adjacent to the Pallegama Thalawa paddy fields. This fertile field of more than 60 acres has been cultivated for two seasons since the time of the ancient kings but today these fields have become barren due to lack of water.
From Poojapitiya town travel 900 meters along the Bokkawala road and you will come across a narrow lane to the right in front of the 7 km post. This Ambalama is located facing the narrow road at this junction.
Walala Tampita Viharaya is built on 25 stone pillars 48cm high. A small circumambulating path has been built around the inner chamber of the viharaya. The front and the two sides of the path is 66cm wide, barely enough for a person to walk. The path at the rear is even smaller, 61cm wide.
The Tampita Viharaya at Ketapitiya is built inside a two storied structure built with brick and mortar. Instead of rock pillars, it has arches made of bricks. Massive wooden beams has been laid across the structure and planks laid on it makes the upper floor.
Out of many tampita viharayas in Kandy district, only two are existing in the Udunuwara. They are Kumbaloluwa Tampita Viharaya and and Eladetta Minimarupitiya Tampita Viharaya.
Ambagastenna Kurukuttala Ambalama can be reached by traveling about 1.5 km on the Ambagastenna Road near the Kadugannawa town on the Colombo-Kandy road. Legend has it that this Ambalama was made during the reign of the Kandy Kingdom.
Gedaramada Ella (Ellegala Ella) Waterfall is an 10 meter high quite wide waterfall hidden in the jungles off Thalagune. You need to find your way through the jungle paths to reach this fall.
There are atleast 7 waterfalls in the Hunnasgiriya Bambaragan Oya waterfall cluster. These waterfalls vary from 10 meters to over 50 meter giants hidden from the main access routes.
There are 5-6 watefalls in this cluster with first waterfall is found just above the bridge flowing at a angle on the Kandy Mahiyangana road at Udadumbara. The water twists and turns over the contours of the rock underneath. The falls starts wide and then thinner at the center and again widens at the tail again.
The Daulagala Ambalama is a traditional resting place built in cement over 100 years ago situated in a rural village of Amunugama, now delapidated and forgortten.
