Ruined Stupa at Mullikulam in Mannar District

Mullikulam Ruins lie in the village of Mullikulam in Iranailluppaikulam No 42 GS division in Madhu Divisional Secretariat. To reach this site, travel 54 km from Vavuniya on the Palampiddi road and turn left at Iranaiiluupaikulam junction, proceed 2 km passing Mullikulam Wewa Reservoir and then after passing the canal and aru, continue on the path at the middle of the paddy field for 500m and the site is at the distant end of the paddy land.

There is an ancient stupa mound at the site. The stupa has been dated to the Anuradhapura era. It has a diameter of 12 meters and a height of 2.5 meters. Treasure hunters have dug a 2-meter deep hole at the centre of the stupa in search of relics and treasures. Bricks of two sizes have been used to construct this stupa. Parts of potsherds and a part of a bowl (Patra) have been discovered in the surrounding area.
