Aluth Herathgama Upathissaramaya Purana Tampita Viharaya

Aluth Herathgama is is village lying at the center between Padeniya and Anuradhapura. To reach this temple you need to travel 40km from Padeniya along the Anuradhapura road or 41km from Anuradhapura to reach the by lane leading to Aluthherathgama Reservior. The temple lies 500 meters down this lane.
The temple looks modern with most of the buildings being built recently. However at the center of these modern buildings you will find an small Tampita Viharaya, a temple on pillars.
Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform which was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.
The Tampita Viharaya at Aluth Herathgama is built on 10 stone pillars with an average height of 51cm. The building does not have a circumambulating path generally found in such structures. The inner image house is 2.95 meters long and 2.36 meters wide. The whole structure is 3.94 meters and 2.36 meters wide.
