The Old Talaimannar Lighthouse (Urumalai Lighthouse) is located at that south of the island at the start of the Adams Bridge, the natural sand bank which stretch all the way to India.  This area is called Urumalai, thus this is also known as Urumalai Lighthouse.

This is a Iron Structure where  fire was used as the navigation light at the top. It is said to have been constructed in the colonial era, specially between 1850-1900 period. Currently only this iron Structure built on 7 long steel pipes stands tall with no indication of it being a light house.
