To reach the ruins of Andagala Archaeological Site in Tirappane village, located in the Galkadawala Grama Sevaka Division of the Gomarankadawala Divisional Secretariat in Trincomalee District, you need to travel about four kilometres past the Gomarankadawala suburb towards Thiriyaya. The sacred site with these ruins is visible on a picturesque rocky plateau on the left side of the road.

This site with the ruins was designated as a protected monument by Gazette Notification No. 1823/73 on 16 August 2013 under Section 16 of the Antiquities Ordinance.

The ruins of two buildings can be found at this site, Both the remains are well-preserved and maintained by the Department of Archaeology. Made of brick, the main building is the first structure you encounter upon entering the area.

The main building consists of two brick walls, enclosing an inner courtyard and an outer courtyard. There are four entrances, one on each side, leading to the outer courtyard. The front and the rear entrances are positioned right and in the centre of the building. Each entrance has three steps, also made of brick, with curved brick handrails accompanying them.

There is no entrance in the brick wall between the inner and outer courtyards, and no evidence suggests there ever was one. It is unclear whether this structure was a Pratimagra (image house) with an inner courtyard or a Bodhighara (Bo tree house). Based on the design, it is likely a Bodhighara.

A second structure is about 50 meters to the west of this main building. This irregular square building is also made of bricks, with only its well-preserved base remaining visible. It is smaller and shorter than the first building and consists of a single room with no inner courtyard. There is an entrance gate for access.

In addition to these two preserved buildings, numerous other ruins can be found in the vicinity, which are presumed to be parts of a tower.
