Sri Vishuddharamaya in Dikwela is an ancient temple built during the era of the Kandyan kingdom. However the Tampita Viharaya at the temple has been built between 2015-2018 and declared open on 27th September 2018. This structure has been built in accordance with the ancient Tampita Vihara tradition.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Inner and outer walls of the buildings are painted with themes such as Suvisi Vivaranaya, Jathaka stories and other Buddhist themes using natural colours in Kandyan Sittara style. These buildings were a popular religious architectural design during the Kandyan period.

The Tampita Viharaya at Dikwela Sri Vishuddharamaya is built on 8 stone pillars 1 feet 9 inches tall. The roof is held by 9 timber pillars resting on the timber platform laid on the stone pillars. Traditional wood carvings can be seen on these pillars.

The main image inside the image house house is a marble seated Buddha statue in Bhoomisparsha Mudra. The statue is carved in the Burmese tradition.

This temple lies 7 km from Dankotuwa town and 18 km off Negombo. To reach the temple from Negombo travel towards Chilaw for 7.5 km and take the Madempe road from Thoppuwa Junction. Travel 3.5 km on this road upto Dankotuwa and and take the Pannala road from Dankotuwa. Travel 5.5 km on this road to Wekada and take the Dikwela road along the cemetery boundary  for 1.4 km and reach Dikwela. Take the by road to right close to Dickwela St. Agatha’s Church to reach the temple.
