Sangaman Kanda Point (Sangamankanda) is the most eastern point in Sri Lanka. The beaches here are still unspoiled and as wide as 100 meters in some places. The Sangaman Kanda Lighthouse was built in 1947 with a height of 25 feet. This was destroyed during the 2004 tsunami and only a 15feet of the lighthouse now remains.

Sangaman Kanda lies on the Potuvil – Kalmune route. This is a small hillock lying close to the road. There are no directions to this point from the main A4 (Colombo-Batticaloa highway). There are directions to “Lighthouse Beach Hut” as some junctions that will take you to the lighthouse. These are narrow gravel roads and we found Google Maps the best guide going in search of this site. The vehicle a bike can be taken right up to the beach through plantation plots.

The beach at Sangamankanda is massive and the sea is calm unlike in Arugambay. In some places sometimes widens up to about 100 meters. No one visits this beach except a traveler visiting the lighthouse.
