Hidden deep in the jungle of Ampara off the remote village of Bandaraduwa lies the ruins known as Weheragodella (Veheragodella). The site is rocky surface near the ancient Nawagiriyawa reservoir.
Nawagiriyawa Wewa reservoir has been built between 2 hills. On the eastern hills is the famous Rajagala Monastery. Weheragodella ruins lie at the foot of the western hills.
The rock plain of Weheragodella is scattered with stone remains of a building. More ruins may lie beneath the surface.
There is no access path these ruins. You need to travel to Bandaraduwa and hike across paddy and chanas to reach the stream which feeds water to the Nawagiriyawa Wewa. The ruins lies on the other side of this tream and need a find a place to cross it.
