Pansalgoda is an unprotected archaeological site hidden inside the jungles off Degal Hela Mountain in Siyambalanduwa.
The site which is about 3 km off the Helamulla Degalhela Viharaya will require a guide knowledgeable of the site. Access to Pansalgoda is through Chena cultivations over a four-wheel drive route.
At the site, you will find a stupa completely covered by jungle and resembling a mound of earth. Although the archaeological department has not recognized it value, treasure hunters have had a field day digging a huge pit from the top of the stupa to almost to to bottom robbing all artefacts in the ‘Dhatu Garbaya’ of the stupa.
Remnants of the rock wall which surrounded the ‘Weli Maluwa‘ can be seen in some places. Ruins of the steps and Korawak Gal ( Balustrades) to enter the weli maluwa can also be seen here.
The area is scattered with stone pillars which once held different buildings. Remnants of an image house, guard stones, balustrades and be found scattered around the area. The most fascinating is the ‘Gal Paththaraya’ (ගල් පාත්තරය) at the site, smaller but similar to the one at Rajagala.
