Perawelpitiya is one of the most remote villages in Ampara District situated deep inside the wilderness west of Uhana, Ampara. The ruins of ancient granite pillars including a foundation of the building in the area known as Gonanpannua in Lathugala was declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;

“Site of ruins of buildings and stone pillars and foundation at the area called Gonanpanna at Lathugala village (latitude 07º 23′ 51” N and longitude 081º 31′ 22”E) situated in Grama Niladhari Division No. W/100/1, Lathugala in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Uhana in Ampara District in Eastern Province.”

GPS location is marked based on the above description. However it is recommended to get directions to the Gonanpanna ruins from a villager  in Lathugala.
