Among the ambalams that existed on the old Kandy – Kurunegala road, the Kumburegama Wela Meda ambalama can be pointed out as a unique ambalama among the remaining ambalamas. This Ambalama is located in Kumburegama village in the Galagedara Divisional Secretariat. Travel along the road from Arambekade – Harankahava Bokkawala to the Kumburegama intersection and after travelling about 1 km on the road to the right of the Kumburegama intersection, you will find Ambalama.

There is a note engraved on a wooden raft in the Ambalama which lies between Galagedara Kandekumbure Ambalama and Attaragama Ambalama that it has been built by Guna Bandara in memory of his father, Korale of kumburegama Walawwa.

Today, this Ambalama has been preserved thanks to the contributions of the villagers. Below is what was engraved in the wooden raft in Ambalama.

“ ක්‍රි.ව. 1896 අප්‍රියෙල් මස සෙදු දින පරලේකප්‍රාප්ත වූ මැ කුඹුරේගම ලොකු කෝරලේ මැතිතුමානන් සිහිවීම පිණිස තත් පුත ගුනපුබණ්ඩාර මහත්මයා විසින් මේ අම්බලම 1912 ජූනි මස 05 දින කරවා නිමවන ලදී ”

(“This Ambalama was completed on June 05, 1912, by his son Gunapubandara in memory of. Kumburegama Loku Korale who passed away on Sedu Day in April 1896 AD”)
