The river serving Glen Falls originates from the northern side of ‘Single Tree Hill’ (with an altitude of 2070m) above the Glen Estate on the borders of the Nuwara Eliya town.

Due to the excessive and illegal clearing at the top of Single Tree Hill, this perennial waterfall dried up in the early 1990s and turned into a seasonal fall. The waterfall can be observed during and just after heavy rains in Nuwara Eliya.

The waters from the fall flow over a rocky ledge amidst forests and later joins Lake Gregory.
