Muruddeniya Kandapita Purana Tampita Viharaya is an ancient temple in Hataraliyadda in Kandy District.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
The Tampita Viharaya at Muruddeniya Kandepita Viharaya has been declared as a protected archaeological monument by the gazette dated 22 November 2002. In 2012, this structure was completely restored to its original status by the Central Cultural Fund.
-0-The Tampita Viharaya lies on 23 stone pillar stumps, 61cm high. The front of the circumambulating path is 2 meters wide. The sides and the rear of the path are 63.5 cm wide. The image house (inner sanctum) is 3.79×2.26m in size and and the whole structure is 6.82×3.99m in size
To reach Muruddeniya from Kandy, travel to Aladeniya Junction on the Kurunegala Road through Katugastota or Peradeniya. From Aladeniya turn left at the IOC filling station and fall in to Muruthalawa Road. Travel 3 km up to Kambiadiya junction (at the 3km post) take the left turn from to fall in to the road to Hataraliyadda. Travel on this road for about 7 km to reach Muruddeniya.
