Minigamuwa Purana Tampita Viharaya has been built during the reign of king Wimaladarmasuriya (1592 – 1604) of Kandyan kingdom for a priest called Buddhagammana thero. The Tampita Viharaya of the temple has been built by one of his students, Attadassi Thero.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
To reach the temple, take to Aladeniya road from Peradeniya and travel up to Galagedara. Take the road towards Rambukkana for 2.7 km and turn to Minugamauwa Road at the Kajugaswanguwa. Travel 6 km on this road to reach the Minigamuwa Purana Tampita Viharaya
