Indulgoda Sri Pushparamaya Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan era. The temple lies about 9 km from Kuruanegala on the Mallawapitiya – Katupitiya road. To reach the temple from Kuruanegala, travel 3.2 km towards Mallawapitiya on the Kandy road and take the road towards Katupitiya. Travel 5 km on this road to reach the temple.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
The Tampita Viharaya at Indulgoda Sri Pushparamaya Rajamaha Viharaya was declared as a protected archaeological monument on the gazette dated 7th December 2001 and is described as follows ;
“The ancient Tampita Vihara situated within the premises of Sri Pushparama in the Village of Indulgoda of the Divisional Secretary’s Division of Mallawapitiya of Kurunegala District in the North Western Province”
