Hiripathwella Mayurawathi Sri Bodhirajarama Purana Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan era. The temple lies 6 km off Pothuhera and 11 km off Polgahawela between Wadakada and Pothuhera. To reach the temple from Polgahawela take the Kurunegala road for for 2.5 km upto Kahawatte Ela junction and take the road towards Wadakada on the left. Travel 6.5 km to Wadakada junction and turn right toward Pothuhera. The temple lies 2 km down this road.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on a number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet high. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The walls inside the inner chamber are more or less always covered in murals drawn mainly in Kandyan style.

The Tampita Viharaya, (Viharaya built on stone piles) in the Hiripathwella Mayurawathi Sri Bodhirajarama Purana Raja Maha Viharaya premises situated in the Hiripathwella Grama Niladhari Division in the Polgahawela Divisional Secretary’s Division, Kurunegala District, was declared as a protected archaeological monument by the Department Archaeology by the gazette dated 24th July 2009.
