Navehera Archaeological Site lies between the towns of Kebithigollewa and Horowpothana in the Anuradhapura District. The turn-off to this site can be found about 10km from the Horowpothana junction.
Before the liberation from the LTTE Terrorists, the villages of this area were under constant threat and on 15 June 2006, 60 innocent civilians including women and children were killed by a Tamil Terrorist claymore attack on a bus during a ceasefire agreement which is known today as the Kebithigollewa Massacre. Fortunately, with the wipeout of these terrorists in 2009, these areas are now freely accessible.
The Department of Archaeology has carried out the excavation and preservation of a fairly large Stupa with a circumference of approximately 60m, ruins of several buildings consisting of granite pillars and balustrades and a pillar inscription can be seen among the preserved artefacts.
Among the buildings, ruins of what has been identified as a Hindu Kovil too can be seen.
