Ritigala Uththupitiya Archaeological Site is located within the Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve in No. 56, Uttupitiya Garama Niladari Division, Tirappane Divisional Secretariat of Anuradhapura District.

From Anuradhapura to Ganewalpola via Maradankadawala, travel 51 kilometres and after travelling 5 kilometres on the Galenbindunuwewa road on the left, you can reach this place by travelling 3 kilometres from Uttupitiya village to the Ritigala reserve.

This place can be considered one of the more important archaeological sites among the archaeological monuments hidden in the Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve. This monastic complex is located in an area where elephants, tigers and bears roam in the dense forest.

In the Ritigala Uththupitiya Archaeological Site, there are two stupa mounds and five buildings in ruins. Most of these ruins have been destroyed by treasure hunters. There are about 10 caves with drip ledges and almost every one of these caves has a ledge inscription. In addition to this, there are parts of walls and steps. In this monastic complex, there is a rock inscription on the top of the rock above one of the caves. In addition, there is an embankment that crosses a stream flowing from the bottom of this monastic complex. This would have been for obtaining water for the needs of the priests in the monastery.
