Singakkuliya Aiyyanayaka Tampita Devalaya in the village of Singakkuliya in Dankotuwa Divisional Secretariat in Puttalam District. According to folklore, this devalaya is about 400 to 500 years old. The Tampita Devalya is built on 9 stone pillars slightly over 1 foot high. There is no circumambulating path around the chamber. A Gebel type 2 side roof is built over the tampita devalaya. A larger structure over the devalaya has been built covering the devalaya at a later date.

A Tampita Viharaya (or devalaya) is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on the number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The inner and outer walls of the buildings are painted with themes such as Suvisi Vivaranaya, Jathaka stories and other Buddhist themes using natural colours in Kandyan Sittara style. These buildings were a popular religious architectural design during the Kandyan period.

“900.01.06 රං.සිං.පුං.සිං” is carved on one of the stone pillars of the devalaya. According to the current priest of the devale (kapuwa) named Punchi Sinho, the Tampita Devalaya was built by his grandfather. Therefore the above date could be 1900 which could be taken as the year that the Tampita Devalaya was built.

Travelling 6.7 km from Dankotuwa towards Giriulla will bring you to Singakkuliya Devala Junction. Turn left from this junction and travel about 200 meters to reach the Devalaya.
