Uttara Mula of Abayagiri Monastery – අභයගිරිය උත්තර මූලය

The Abhayagiri Aramic Complex (Abayagiri Temple) was made of four mula’s, fraternities or institutions for religious teaching. They were Uttara Mula, Kapara Mula, Mahanetpamula and Vahadu-mula. Uttara Mula is the name which identifies the most ancient congregation of bikkus in the Abhayagiri Monastery and their head quarters. In ancient times when the the sacred tooth relic of Buddha was in Abhayagiri, Uttara Mula Bikkus were the custodians of it. The remains of the Dalada Maligawa (The Shrine of the tooth relic) can be seen in this area.

Driving Directions to Uttara Mula of Abayagiri Monastery (Anuradhapura)
Anuradhapura can be reached through many routes from Colombo. The two main routes are through Puttlam (Puttalama) and though Kurunegala. Traveling from Puttlam you will pass scenic Wilpattu area. the From Kurunegala there are two main routes to Anuradhapura. The most common route is through Dambulla. The other route is though Galgamuwa. Out of all the routes, the commonly used is the Kurunegala – Dambulla route (Route 2).
