Travelling 3km towards Lakshapana Falls from Nortonbridge, you will come across a rather insignificant junction named Double Cutting. One of the roads of this junction takes you to Lakshapana town and the other road to the waterfall.

At the top of the road to Lakshapana town, you will find the only “0” milepost in the country. The purpose of a Zero Mile Post is a mystery. Some road constructors may have decided that marking the start point of the measured distance along the road could be useful.

According to folklore, this Zero Milepost lies in the centre of the island. If you draw a vertical line between Point Pedro and Dondra Head and a horizontal line between Colombo and Sangaman Kanda, it is said that this Zero Mile Post lies at the intersection. However, with the advent of digital maps, it clearly can be seen this is not so. However, the vertical line runs very close to this point.

Due to the uniqueness of this milepost, this has been a point of attraction for those visiting the Nortonbridge or Maskeliya areas.
