Amunugoda is an area between Kirillawala and Ganemulla in Gampaha District. An Ambalama is a place constructed for pilgrims, traders and travellers to rest or spend the night in ancient Sri Lanka. They were built by kings, regional rulers and nobles as a service to the common man.

Amunugoda Ambalama is a brick-and-mortar structure with seven brick pillars holding the roof. The pillars are plain and carry no artwork. A half-height wall is built around the building with an opening for the entrance at the front.   The structure is 13 feet in width and breath. 6-inch high and 14-inch wide seats are built with cement inside the ambalama. The roof is tiled with Calicut clay tiles.

The Ambalama was built during the late 19th century and lies close to a paddy field adjoining a small canal. There has been a Panthaliya built out of stone at this ambalama but it has disappeared now. It is said that there was a cart road along this ambalama a long time ago. This would have been a resting place for bullock carts carrying goods from distant places and for the farmers of adjoining paddy fields. Unfortunately, this card road has now become a narrow footpath.

To reach the Ambalama, travel up to Kirillawala on Kandy road and take the Kaluwala road from the Kirillawala Cemetery. Travel on this road for 1.3 km on this road to reach Amunugoda Playground. Continue on the same road along the play ground for a further 1.5 km until you reach a paddy field. Before reaching the paddy field turn left and find a well. You need to enter the paddy field to take a closer look of this ambalama.

Kossinna Ambalama is another similar Ambalama which lies very close to this structure.
