The name ‘Balakaduwa‘ is said to be a command made by King Walagamba meaning “lookout for the sword.” The king had thrust his sword on the ground and gone for a dip in the waterfall. Afterwards he had left the place forgetting the sword. But after recollecting, he had ordered his retune to look out for his sword. This historic episode has given rise to the 4m high Ablakaduwa Falls.
Go to the Matale- Kandy Road (593/594) traveling for 6.5km toward Kandy, the Baladuwa Pass is met. The fall is located here. Incipient from water body located above Baladuwa Estate. It flows from Balakaduwa across Warakammula to Suduganga River.
The LCWF site has listed this waterfall under Kandy which seems to be a mistake.
