Serupitiya is a small agricultural village lying in Dehiattakandiya Pradeshiya Sabha area. Archaeological ruins in side the Sri Chandimarama Purana Viharaya in Seupitiya has been declared as protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 26th December 2014, and describes the locations as follows ;
“Other archeological relics including ancient shrine with stone statue of Budhdha and stone pillars at the premises of Sri Chandimarama purana vihara, Serupitiya situated in Grama Niladhari Division No. 142, Serupitiya in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Dehiaththakandiya in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (Latitude 07º37´ 54.4´´ N and longitude 081º0´ 25.8´´ E)”
