
Opposite the Dadayamthalawa Wewa (Reservoir) and next to the STF camp in Samanthure lies the Malwaththa (Malwatta) Government Seed Production Farm. On a rock plateau inside the farm lies ruins of a building of the ancient Digamadulla kingdom.
The area of ruins found on this farm has been declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;
“Rock plain with chisel holing and scattered ancient bricks in the premises belonging to Government Seed Farm, Malwaththa in Chadayamthalawa village situated in the Grama Niladhari Division Malwaththa 03 in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Sammanture in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 07º 21′ 58” N and longitude 081º 43′ 59”E).”
