Dehannagama Sri Sudarshanarama Viharaya lies between Anamaduwa and Nikaweratiya in Kurunegala District. Traveling from Anamaduwa, you need to travel 5.6km towards Nikaweratiya or if you are traveling from Nikaweratiya, you need to travel 13.3 km to reach the turnoff to the temple. From the main Puttalam – Kurunegala road take the side road to ancient Dehannagama Reservoir lying in a tranquil remote village. This reservoir and the temple is briefly mentioned by Edward Upham in the The Mahavansi, the Raja-Ratnacari and Raja Vali forming the sacred and historical books of Ceylon Vol.3 published in 1833.
Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform which was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.
Dehannagama Tampita viharaya lies on 8 rock pillars 20 centimeters tall. A corridor runs around the image house. The front is wider 1.43 meters and the sides and the rear are 40cm and 36cm across. The image house is 3×2.5 meters in size and the building is 4.9×3.2 meters in size.
