Diyabate Purana Viharaya lies between Yapahuwa and Madagalla on the Maho-Magalla Road. Turning right at Konwewa and travelling 2 km will bring you to this desolated temple complex built at the bottom of a massive rock at Diyabate.

This cave temple is not inhabited and thus carries a mystical aura. The statues at the main cave have been restored recently although not completed.  A number of clay statues remain as they were built hundreds of years ago with no apparent recent human activity.

A number of caves with drip ledges are found in the temple complex indicating that this complex was used by the meditating bikkus many thousands of years ago. One inscription at the temple describes the building and the donation of the nearby small lake to the temple.
