From Kurunegala, take the Galewela Road to Ibbagamuwa, and turn to Dodamgaslanda Road and reach Katupilawatta Junction. From here take the Udahorombuwa Road to reach Ginihiriya Sri Sudarshana Viharaya. The distance from Ibbagamuwa to this temple is 13.5 km. The distance from Palapathwala (Matale-Galewela road) is 21 km.
Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform which was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.
Tampita Viharaya at Ginihiriya is built on 6 stone pillars 74 centimeters high. A circumambulating path runs around the image house. It is 91 centimeters wide at front, 41 cm wide on sides and rear. The image house is 3.48×2.51 meters in size and the building is 4.80×3.33 meters in size.
