Hulannuge is a village situated along the Siyambalanduwa – Lahugala Road. Heda Oya flows through Hulannuge feeding the paddy fields of the village.
An ancient stone anicut (gal amuna) anicut at Hulannuge on the Heda Oya has been declared a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows;
“Hada oya stone anicut in 14 Kanuwegama village situated in Grama Niladhari Division PP 12 Hulannuge West in Divisional Secretary’s Division Lahugala in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 06º 89074′ N and longitude 081º 64542′ E).”
