Kollamkulam (Pudayalpitti) Archaeological Ruins in Mannar District

Ruins of an ancient building belonging to the Anuradhapura kingdom are found at this site. The building has been built on pillar base stones. These pillar bases are 55×35 cm in size. The hole at the centre where the stone pillars stood is 10×10 cm in size and 8 cm deep.

The stone base of a statue is found about 2 meters east of the above building. This base has a diameter of 78 cm and is 20 cm thick. The hole at the centre where the image was fixed has a diameter of 20 cm.

Behind the ruins of the building lies a mound which is believed to be a ruined stupa. This mound has a diameter of 5 meters and is only about 50 cm in height. Treasure hunters have dug a hole 2 meters in diameter at the centre of this mound in search of treasures. The brick of the stupa mound is scattered around and they are 19x23x4 cm in size.

To reach the site, one needs to travel 17 km on the Palampiddi road from Vavuniya to reach the Iranai Iluppaikulam 4-way junction. Turn right and travel another 4.7 km on the Vannivilankulam-Poovarasankulam road and take the by-road for 1.35 km. The site lies on the right-hand side of the road.
