The enchanting Kotapola Kiruwana Ella Waterfall is 54 meters in height and is located in the village named Kotapola in Matara District.
Access to this waterfall is about 4 Km from Kotapola via Urubokka. Hydroelectric power is also generated from this waterfall. Once you reach bridge at Kosmodara on the Kotapola – Urubokka Road, you need to walk about 750 meters towards Mugunumulla to reach the fall. The Beauty of this waterfall is in its length. It falls over a long flat rock with patches of moss in between creating a unique view of white water water and green moss patches.
In spite of the beauty of the Kotapola Ella Fall only few tourists visit this place due to the lack of awareness about the attractions of the location. Due to the diversion of the water to the hydro power plant above the fall, the water levels of this fall has decreased since recently. Therefore its best that this waterfall is visted during the rainy season. The photos of the waterfall has been taken during when there is a decent amount of water in the stream. During the dry season, you may not have the same view.
