Kurudana Gangathilake Rajamaha Viharaya is a fairly recently built small temple in Kuda Oya between Wellawaya and Thanamalwila. The ruins of the original ancient temple lie across the Kirindi Oya flowing behind this new temple.

Crossing the river over a hanging bridge, you will come across ruins of a stupa resembling a mound of earth near the riverbed. The stupa is about 40 feet in circumference, and the remains are about 8 feet in height. A few stone pillars around this mound mark the Weli Maluwa (Sand Terrace) of the stupa.

A few flower altars built around the stupa are also among the ruins. The remains of a building, which can be a dwelling house, are clearly visible. A flat stone slab placed on four stone pillars is found near the building; it is not clear if this is a flower altar or a pedestal for a Buddha statue.

There are several short stone pillars, possibly of a Tampita Viharaya, as no bricks can be found there. Only three stone statue pedestals are found at this image house.

A circular stone pillar is found in the middle of the ancient Dagaba. It is known as ‘Yupagala’ and is part of the stupa design found in the early Anuradhapura period.
