Located in Kudumbimalai, this Anuradhapura-period Buddhist monastery site sits on elevated ground by the Mirankadawai paddy field. Land development has completely destroyed the structures, displacing stone pillars, bricks, and architectural components into secondary context, with artifacts scattered across nearby fields.

The Mirankadawai Paddy Field Archaeological Ruins are located in Kudumbimalai village, within the Grāma Niladhāri Division of Kudumbimalai (209-D), in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Kōralai Pattu South (Kiran).

Access Route

From Kiran Junction, travel along Thuraiyadi Road, located to the left of Pulipanchakal Junction, to Anjanakatte (5th Post) Junction, and continue to Kudumbimalai Junction. Turn onto the road in front of the Miyankulam Army Memorial and proceed for approximately 300 meters before taking the by-road. Continue for about 1 km along this by-road to reach the ruins, which are situated on elevated ground at the edge of the paddy field supplied by the Mirankadawai reservoir.

Historical Background

Based on the structural characteristics of the ruined monuments and the scattered archaeological artifacts, the site provides evidence of a Buddhist monastery dating to the Anuradhapura period.

Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence

The archaeological remains are located on elevated ground at the edge of the Mirankadawai paddy field, to the left of Kudumbimalai Road.

The site has been completely destroyed as a result of the land being developed using machinery. The area is currently used as a goat pen, and antiquities from the ancient construction have been displaced and now remain in a secondary context. These include stone pillars, bricks, and other stone architectural components.

Antiquities belonging to the site are also scattered across the surrounding paddy fields.
