The Morapaya Ambalama lies about 2 km on the road to Mandaram Nuwara from Padiyapellela in the District of Nuwara Eliya. Even though lying right next to the road, this Ambalama doesn’t seem to have caught the eye of the authorities.
Ambalama is a wayside rest hall built by the kings or chieftains of the area for weary travellers when the primary mode of transport was by foot and a journey would take many days.
Morapaya Ambalama rests on nine granite pillars. The original roof has been replaced by a tin roofing which is now rusted. The side walls too have been made with cement at some time. Unfortunately, this stands neglected with posters stuck all over it today.
