Rambukkana Nawagamuwa Purana Tampita Viharaya – රඹුක්කන නවගමුව පුරාණ ටැම්පිට විහාරය

Rambukkana Nawagamuwa Purana Tampita Viharaya is an ancient temple hidden away in middle of picturesque paddy fields between Pinnawala and Rambukkana.
One of the unique features a visitor could observe today at this temple is the Tampita Vihara Ge. Tampita Vihara were a popular architectural feature of temples during the Kandyan era. The temple is built on top of granite stumps with wooden platform laid across the stumps.
This Tampita Viharaya is built on a 19 feet 3 inch long and 13 feet wide wooden platform built on granite stumps. The viharaya itself is 10 feet 9 inches long and 10 feet wide. A exquisite Dragon Arch (makara thorana) can be seen at the entrance to the temple. A 3 feet i inch high seating Buddha statue is found inside the chamber.
To reach the temple take to road towards the popular Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and travel 1.2 km passing the entrance to the orphanage to reach the Nawagamuwa road. Travel 300 meters on the Nawagamuwa road to reach the temple.
