The most northen point of Sri Lanka lies on the edge of road between Kankasanthure and Velvetithurai. There is a misconception that the Northern point of Sri Lanka is marked by the Point Pedro Light house but the correct point lies 4.2 km to the west of the light house.
This point is marked by a concrete board on the edge of a correl with a Sri Lankan Flag painted on it. This site is easily reachable by any vehicle along the road which goes along the beach. A small army camp lies on the small stretch of beach. You can stop your vehicle here and and walk up to this point over waves and corral reef.
This is the most northern point in Sri Lanka. It is marked by a concrete slab on a small rock on the sea with the Sri Lankan flag drawn on it. This location lies in between the velvetithurei and Point Pedro. This site is easily reachable by any vehicle along the road which goes along the beach. There is a small army camp in front of this board covering it from the road.
From the Jaffna Town you need to take the Palali Road. Ask for Keerimalai from the local folks or any army check point. This is very popular place now that the roads gave been opened. If you like to have an peaceful bath, you need to go early morning since there will be bus loads of people coming there towards the afternoon. The route to Dambakola Patuna Viharaya also lies passing this pond.
