Pankandura Ella ( Minee Ella ) fall is created by the Galpothawa River and is divided into three main segments. The lowest is 9m in height and cascades downwards over a series of steps in a spiral motion. It is also known as the ‘Minee Falls’ (Corpses Falls) owing to the fact that the bodies of people who drown in the river above are swept down by the torrent of water.
In the surrounding woodland, kaduru (Strychnos nux-vomica), palu (Manilkara hexandra), breadfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), liyan, badulla (Semicarpus obscura), milla (Viterx altissima) and goraka are present.
Take the road from Sri Palabedde village towards Sri Pada and at the village of Balanoa, at the entrance to Pankandura Tea Estate, the fall can be found. It is not easily accessible as it is an area of jungle covered in bamboo shoots, which has to be cleared.
