The Pattiawatta Ambalama is in Udubokkavala Gramsevaka Division in Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat of Kandy District.
Traveling from Kandy to Katugastota and turning to Ranawana Road leading to Madewala and traveling 4.3 km, you will meet the Pattiawatta junction. From this junction, there is a narrow road leading to Ambathanna.
In the left direction of this place, you can see this Ambalama partially hidden behind a newly built Buddha image house among the buildings.
This ambalama is made of brick and mortar and the roof has been restored using semi-cylindrical clay tiles. The ambalama is made in a rectangular shape and a small hall-like extension has been added to enter from the front. The roof is built as two parts for two sections.
In this Ambalama, there is not a single feature that can be seen in Ambalam during the Kandy period. No carvings or wooden poles are used here. In most Ambalams, the roof is made of four panels, and rafters are added to a Kanimadala in the middle of the roof. At least that feature is not present here. It is often felt that the original form of this ambalam has been lost in later restorations.
This Ambalama does not possess any distinctive characteristics that were commonly found in Ambalams during the Kandy period. Noteworthy elements such as carvings or wooden poles are noticeably absent. Unlike most traditional Ambalams, this particular structure lacks a roof composed of four panels, with the addition of rafters supported by a central Kanimadala. It is believed that the original design of this ambalama has been altered through subsequent renovations.
This Ambalama was designated as an archaeological site by a special gazette on 16 August 2013. At present, the building is used as a three-wheeler stand and a bus stand.
