
The Pilkington Point some times called Poonagala View Point is a panoramic view point for situated 1400 meters above sea level popular with travelers who visit Haputale and Bandarawela. The view point is known by the name of Sir Pilkington, first manager Poonagalla Group, who used this location to scan the vast tea estate of Poonagala in late 1800’s.
This site could be reached from Beragala by taking the Wellawaya road which connects to Wellawaya and taking the Poonagala road from Kosanda. The distance from Koslanda is 12 km and from Beragala itself 29km. You can also reach the site from Bandarawela 20 kms away by taking the Kinigama Road. Both routes will take you through a winding road passing picturesque forest patches and vast tea estates.
On a clear day, you can see the districts of Monaragala, Hambanthota, Rathnapura and a part of Ampara, Three Light Houses, Tissa Tank, Hauda Panagalla tank, etc. from this point. To get the best view you need be at the point in morning times before clouds set in.
