Less than 1 kilometre away from the Ambalantota – Hambantota Road lies the ancient temple of Rangiri Rajamaha Viharaya. Like hundreds of temples in this area, this ancient temple complex belongs to the ancient Ruhunu Kingdom which dates back to the pre-Christian era.
The temple has been modernized and a few large statues made out of granite, some monoliths which had held temple buildings thousands of years ago and a large granite flower altar can be seen at the temple.
