The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
The Tampita Viharaya at Shilapokkarani Purana Viharaya is built with a narrow circumambulating path with a 1/2 height protective wall around the image house. A small granite structure marks 2452 BE ( 1908 CE) indicating its year it was built.
