The ruins of this ancient monastic complex can be reached by traveling approximately 7 kilometers along the Kantale–Serunuwara road, passing Suriyapura junction and Kalupalama. From the main road, one must trek about 500 meters into the jungle on the left, entering a forested area situated south of the Mahaweli River, where the remains of this site are located. Surrounding the main Vihara, the ruins of a small stupa and several ancient structures have been discovered.
The stupa mound, which rises several feet above the ground, has been excavated and destroyed by treasure hunters at its center. Within the circular cavity left by this disturbance, multiple brick layers are still visible. At the bottom lies the garbha (relic chamber), constructed from large stone slabs. Many of these stone slabs and bricks are now scattered across the surface of the stupa mound.
Approximately 45 feet southwest of the stupa, the remains of two adjacent buildings can be seen. One of these buildings, relatively less damaged, was constructed using four rows of stone pillars, with four pillars per row placed in close alignment. Six of these pillars remain intact and in excellent condition, while others have fallen. The standing pillars measure over 4.5 feet in height.
Immediately east of these two buildings, the ruins of another structure with ten stone pillars can be identified. Additionally, around 15 feet north of the stupa lie the remains of a small building and a stone vessel for washing the feet (padovana gala), along with five stone pillars. About 100 feet further north, the ruins of yet another building are visible, featuring three tall stone pillars, each approximately 6 feet high. These pillars bear deep, square-shaped grooves at their tops, indicating they were designed to support wooden roof beams.
Given the cluster of buildings arranged around the central stupa, it is evident that this site once served as a well-developed Buddhist monastic complex in ancient times.
