The ancient Sivurupitiya Tampita Viharaya lie in the temple of Bodhirukkarama Viharaya in Hatharaliyadda in Kandy District.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on several stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The walls inside the chamber are more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.

Sivurupitiya Tampita Viharaya is one of the smallest of its kind. It is built on 4 short pillars. Connected to it from the front lies a large preaching hall further dwarfing the Tampita Viharaya. The preaching hall is built with a two-layered roof and based on the architectural features, the building can be dated to the late 18th century.

The entrance to the Tampita Viharaya is through a small wooden stairway. The doorway is of Chandrawanka design. The waterfalls are plain except for 2 partial murals beside the door. These murals seem to have been made in the early 20th century and show European influence. Unfortunately, this temple doesn’t have a permanent resident priest.
