This ancient dagoba (stupa) is located within a teak plantation in the Kappalthurai Grama Niladhari Division, which falls under the Trincomalee Kadawath Sathara Divisional Secretariat. It is located opposite the Kappalthurai Timber Corporation and is accessible from the Trincomalee–Kandy road while heading toward Thambalagamuwa. The site is visible near culvert 188/5, directly across from the timber corporation, nestled within the plantation.

Approximately 70 meters from the stupa mound, Venerable Rotawala Nandaram Thero has built a dwelling and named the sacred premises Sunandaramaya. He resides here as the Chief Incumbent, dedicating himself to preserving and safeguarding this historic religious site.

The main feature of the site is the large mound of an ancient stupa, situated about 150 yards from the main road. The stupa mound measures approximately 200 feet in circumference and rises to a height of around 12 feet. Unfortunately, the site has been disturbed by treasure hunters who have excavated the relic chamber, leaving bricks scattered throughout the area.

At the base of the mound lies a stone siripathul gala (footprint slab), roughly 28 inches long and of similar width.

Although the exact period of construction and the identity of its builder remain unknown, the layout of the ruins and the surrounding evidence suggest that this stupa likely dates back to the early Anuradhapura period.
