Sri Dhamajothiyarama Purana Viharaya is a Buddhist temple in Welangahawatta, Matale with an ancient Tampita Viharaya built during the Kandyan Kingdom. The temple lies 18 km off  Matale town.

To reach the temple from Matale, travel to Rattota (10 km) and take the road toward Welangahawatta (6 km)

A Tampita Viharaya is a special building constructed on a wooden platform supported by several stone stumps, typically around 3 to 4 feet tall. Its roof is supported by a timber frame, and the walls are often made of wattle and daub, a mixture of woven branches and clay. Inside, the chamber walls are usually adorned with paintings, often in the Kandyan style, depicting religious themes and stories.

The Tampita Viharaya at the Welangahawatta Sri Dhamajothiyarama Purana Viharaya was declared a protective monument by the gazette dated 9th September 2011 and describes as follows ;

“The Tampita Image house with preaching hall in the Welangahawatta Sri Dhamajothiyarama Vihara situated in the Grama Niladhari Division No. : A/376, Welangahawatta in Raththota Divisional Secretary’s Division in Mathale District Central Province”
